Where in the World?!

Daily writing prompt
If you won two free plane tickets, where would you go?

I’m a Spanish teacher, and my husband roasts coffee, so obviously we are going to lean towards a Spanish-speaking country. I’ve already visited a few of these amazing countries, and I would return to any of them in a heartbeat.

  • MEXICO: I visited Mexico with my family when I was a little girl, but I don’t remember much from that trip. We were in Texas and went into Mexico one day to visit some markets and eat street food. I remember buying a hammock, poncho, and a tiny little bobblehead turtle from one of the vendors. I would love to go back to Mexico now that I have a deeper appreciation for the language and culture.
  • HONDURAS: The first time I actually got on a plane and flew to a new country was when I visited Honduras for the first time in 2014. That trip was the reason I fell in love with the Spanish language and Latin American culture, and it’s ultimately the reason I eventually became a Spanish teacher! I have visited Honduras several times since then, and it may always be my favorite place in the world. The scenery is breathtaking, the food is delicious, and the people are so warm and welcoming. My husband and I have both been separately, but I would love for us to get to go together one day!
  • ECUADOR: I planned to go back to Honduras in the summer of 2019, but I was working for a bilingual church at the time and ended up going to Ecuador with my church that year. We flew into Quito and visited our mission partners there, and then we flew to Coca and drove from there into the jungle. We got to see all the incredible work that our mission partners were doing, and we got to help out on the farm and at some of the churches and community centers nearby. I chopped down banana trees with a machete, ate lots of plants and herbs straight out of the ground, and met some amazing people. I would love to go back and spend more time in Quito or visit the Galapagos Islands!

This summer was the first time I have gotten on a plane since my trip to Ecuador. In the last five years, I got engaged and married, bought a house, got a master’s degree, and changed careers. I didn’t have much time (or extra funds) for travel, and there was the whole pandemic situation. Ew. But I was so excited – and nervous – to finally be able to travel again. (Read about it here: Coming Home)

I visited England and France with EF Tours, and I came home and immediately started planning another trip. My husband, Riley, and I will be celebrating our fifth anniversary next summer, and neither of us has ever been to Spain. After visiting France and falling in love with European culture, it was a no-brainer! I have wanted to visit Spain for a while now, especially after becoming a Spanish teacher. There is so much history, culture, and beautiful architecture everywhere in Spain. There are big cities and small towns, mountains and beaches, and everything in between.

Since we haven’t gotten our plane tickets yet… I guess Spain is my final answer!

If you’ve been to Spain, I would love to hear about it! Leave a comment or send me an email, and let’s talk!
